20 new COVID-19 cases in Steuben County

The Steuben County Public Health Department received notification that 20 Steuben County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, including an employee of the Steuben Center. This brings the county total to 6,285 confirmed cases, 175 of which are currently active.

 

GoFundMe established for victims of Canisteo crash

A GoFundMe (https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-buchinger-family-mason-family?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=unknown&utm_campaign=comms_gfm+help-buchinger-family-mason-family) page has been set up to help two families who were injured in a head-on collision in Canisteo on Wednesday, April 14th. State Police say a 64-year-old man from Hammondsport who was driving a pickup truck turned left onto CR-27, where he struck head-on the car of a 21-year-old mother from Canisteo driving westbound on CR-119, who had 3 children in the car, ranging from 2 months to 10 years of age. State Police also said charges are pending against the driver of the pickup truck.

 

Cameron woman arrested for animal abuse

Yesterday, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department arrested 24-year-old Gracie L. Schoffner, of Beck Drive in Cameron. It is alleged that Ms. Schoffner failed to provide adequate housing and care for two dogs and a cat at her residence.  Ms. Schoffner was charged with Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance/Torturing/Injuring an Animal.  Ms. Schoffner was released on an Appearance Ticket directing her to Cameron Town Court at a later date.  The animals were signed over to the Finger Lakes SPCA.

 

Cuomo Impeachment Commission to meet Wednesday

Per New York State Assembly Judiciary Committee Chair Charles Lavine, officials will meet on Wednesday, April 21st to begin the investigation into Governor Andrew Cuomo’s alleged misconduct: sexual harassment and inappropriate touching in the workplace, inaccurate reporting of nursing home deaths, taking shortcuts to complete the Mario Cuomo Bridge, and executive staff “volunteering” to write the Governor’s book. Lavine said the committee has received over 100 tips, and relevant leads are being explored by legal experts.

 

 

Steuben County man arrested for fleeing the scene of an accident

Deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department arrested Timothy F. Decker, age 35, of SR 417 in Woodhull. It is alleged in March 2021, Mr. Decker operated a motor vehicle on CR 102 in Woodhull, New York, colliding into a utility pole in a one car collision and left the scene without reporting it.  It is also alleged Mr. Decker caused in excess of $9,000 in property damage. Mr. Decker was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Collision and Failure to Keep Right.  Mr. Decker was released on an Appearance Ticket directing him to Woodhull Town Court at a later date. 

 

Beaver Dams man indicted for attempted murder in Elmira

Brandon Macewan of Beaver Dams has been indicted for attempted murder after an alleged March 29th incident in Elmira where he stabbed a man with a sword because he was “attempting to cause (the man’s) death.” In addition, Macewan was also indicted for assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
