Steuben County Reports 36 New COVID Cases & Death of Patient
Steuben County health officials report 36 new COVID-19 cases and the death of an 89-year-old man from Absolute Care Three Rivers in Painted Post. The Steuben death toll has now climbed to 82. The latest infections bring the number of confirmed, currently active cases to 146 and county total to 1,282 confirmed cases since the pandemic’s beginning. The cases are countywide and in no particular cluster. The individuals are isolated and being monitored by the County Health Department.


Troopers Need Help Locating Missing Willard Parolee
The State Police report a missing incarcerated parolee from the Willard Drug Treatment Campus in Willard, NY. Kevin Witt is a 29-year-old described as a white male, 5 foot 9 inches tall, medium build, who was last seen around 7:00 p.m. during a work detail outside the secure area on the Willard campus last night. Anyone with information on Witt’s whereabouts is asked to contact the State Police or call 911.


COVID Spike Makes Future of High School Winter Sports Look Bleak
With growing COVID cases in New York, state officials said yesterday they are less likely to allow high risk indoor winter high school sports, such as basketball, hockey and wrestling. New York has yet to announce any official decision on winter sports, but Governor Cuomo and his top aides doubted whether the teams will be able to convene later this month as the schools had hoped.


State Police Report Rise in Gift Card Phone Scams to Elderly
The NYSP is warning the public of a recent increase of phone scams to elderly citizens. This scam includes some familiar scenarios, like…a family member has an illness or was arrested and needs bail money…police agencies do not contact family for bail money. The caller in both scenarios will advise the victim to get a specific amount of money and buy gift cards from popular stores – there’s your red flag. The victim is told to call a number and read off the gift card identification number. When you are asked to purchase a gift card…it…is…a…scam. If you have parents or elderly people in your family, take the time to explain this scam to them.


NYSP Seeking Missing Man from Broome County
Broome County Police report they are  looking for missing man Gregory Gale Jr., who was last seen at the Speedway on East Main Street in Binghamton around 11:00 Sunday morning. Gale is a 44-year-old man with autism and has the mentality of a 5-year-old. He recently moved to the area and does not know the area well. Gale is described as a light-skinned black male with brown eyes, a mustache, a goatee, black hair, 6 feet tall and roughly 260 - 270 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green camo jacket, light blue jeans and black sneakers. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at (607) 754-2701 or (607) 775-1241.
