I-86 Campbell Crash Involving Trooper Injures 2
A State Trooper was treated for minor injuries after a crash yesterday afternoon on I-86W in Campbell. The crash happened around 3:50 p.m. when a car attempted to merge into another lane around a truck and struck the Trooper’s vehicle. The trooper’s vehicle had its lights on and was responding to a call at the time of the crash. The trooper was transported to Robert Packer Hospital and the driver of the second vehicle was taken to Guthrie Corning with non-life-threatening injuries.

 

Steuben Sees 17 New COVID Cases
The Steuben County Public Health Department received notification that 17 Steuben County residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total to 1,195 confirmed cases, 167 of which are currently active. Public Health Director Darlene Smith say COVID-19 continues to spread in Steuben County quickly. She added that “By the time someone gets tested, they could have come in contact with more than a dozen people.”

 

Congressman Reed Unofficially Re-Elected
Congressman Tom Reed has unofficially won re-election to Congress. However, Democratic challenger Tracy Mitrano says she will not yet concede. If the results are certified, Reed will begin his fifth term in office. In Steuben County, Reed bested Mitrano by more than 17,000 votes. Tompkins County was the only county  in the 23rd District that voted Mitrano.

 

O’Mara Expected to Win 58th State Senate District
Unofficial results show Republican incumbent Tom O’Mara has a lead over Leslie Danks-Burke by about 23,000 votes. He received over 27,000 votes in Steuben County, beating his opponent by a nearly 3-1 margin here. There are 33,339 absentee ballots to be counted in the 58th State Senate district, and Burke trails incumbent Republican Sen. Tom O’Mara by an approximate 20,000 vote margin.

 

Coopers Plains Woman Arrested Following Indictment Warrants
The Village of Bath Police Department reports the arrest of 38-year-old Tina M. Conklin of Main Street in Coopers Plains on 2 sealed indictment Superior Court Warrants. The charges were 2 counts each of criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance. It is alleged that in late 2019 Conklin sold suboxone in the Village of Bath. The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Bath Police Department, Corning City Police Department, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, and the Steuben County District Attorney Investigators.

 

Bath Woman Arrested for Forgery
A Bath woman faces multiple felony charges. State Police say they arrested 46- year-old Grace Brown. She was charged with two counts of second-degree forgery; those are class D felony crimes. The crimes allegedly occurred October 22 in the Allegany County Town of Hume and Monday in the Town of Granger. Brown will answer the charges in court at a later date.

 

Lindley Man Arrested for Injuring K-9, Drug and Weapon Charges
The New York State Police report the arrest of a 33-year-old Lindley man for an AUO 3rd warrant and pending State Police charges stemming from a search warrant. Donald Baxter attempted to flee during the arrest and troopers deployed K-9 Bobby who caught Baxter, and detained him for troopers. Baxter injured K-9 Bobby during the incident. State Police Investigators located a quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, marihuana, metal knuckles, knives, a high capacity magazine, and two loaded handguns during the investigation. Baxter was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, several drug charges, and Killing or Injuring a Police Animal. He was arraigned at Steuben County CAP Court and was remanded to the Steuben County Jail.
