Sixteen properties are up for bid during the 2020 Steuben County Real Property Auction set for Friday, October 2nd .The auction will take place in two sessions scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and held in the county Annex in Bath. Due to restrictions on gathering size, those able to do so are asked to bid online and must pre-register before 4 p.m. today to bid during the auctions. Those unable to bid online must pre-register before 4 p.m. today in order to maintain gathering-size guidance. Those attending the auction in person will be screened in line with COVID-19 protocols before entering the building and be required to wear a mask.

With 35 new cases of COVID-19 identified in Steuben County, bringing the number of active cases to 136. The investigations indicate a total of 51 infections among the residents of Corning Center Nursing Home, 21 of which are new infections. Four deaths have occurred there and employee ceases has grown to 25. County Health Director Darlene Smith said the Corning Center cluster has been happening for about a month. Smith said right now the source of the outbreak is hard to say.

 

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced that the State has expanded its Drought Watch to the Southern Tier drought region, which includes Cattaraugus, Alleghany, Steuben, and Chemung counties.

 

Announced yesterday was the 2020-2021 hunting schedule for the region’s state parks. Archery, shotgun, muzzleloader, and small game duck, Canada geese, and snow geese hunting is allowed in local parks in the Finger Lakes Region. Hunters must reference the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Hunting and trapping guide for dates and hunting rules.Hunters must check with park office to obtain a self-issue permit for any hunting. 

 

The November 3rd General Election is seeing a record number of absentee ballots submitted via mail thanks to the late hours spent by the Steuben County Board of Elections and volunteers this week. Election commissioners said the board has received over 4,600 absentee ballot applications.

 

The Police Benevolent Association of the New York State Troopers, Inc. has endorsed the re-election of State Senator Tom O’Mara in New York State’s 58th Senate District. The NYS Troopers PBA represents more than 6,000 active and retired, uniformed members of the New York State Police, from the rank of Trooper through the rank of Major, including many within the 58th District whose service, past and present, included public safety and protection across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions. O’Mara said it’s truly a privilege to have earned their confidence and support.

 

Four Alfred University students are currently confirmed as positive for COVID-19 and remain in isolation. 54 students in quarantine, on and off campus, related to the students in isolation as a result of contact tracing. In Monday’s surveillance testing, the testing team administered the pooled saliva test to 129 students. Those students who were assigned to Monday’s testing schedule but did not appear for testing on Monday will be required to meet with the Dean of Student Wellbeing for sanctions under the student conduct policies, and possible suspension or expulsion.
