Steuben Reports Four New COVID Cases
The Steuben County Public Health Department received notification four Steuben County residents tested positive for COVID-19 and brings the total to 373 confirmed cases, 31 of which are currently active. Two individuals are residents of the: City of Corning and one each from the Town of Addison and Town of Campbell.
Hornell Man Arrested for Alleged Drug Trafficking
Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Adam J. Carbonell, age 30, of Hornell after an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, Village of Bath and City of Corning Police Departments into alleged narcotics trafficking. It is alleged that Mr. Carbonell trafficked narcotics in the Hornell area. Carbonell was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree. Mr. Carbonell was held in the Steuben County Jail pending arraignment in Steuben County Court, where he was remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail.
Teen Boy Injured in Penn Yan Bike Accident Yesterday
Yesterday, in the Village of Penn Yan, a teenage boy was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital after being involved in a bicycle accident. The 16-year-old rode his bike on North Avenue then hit a storm drain causing his bicycle to lose its front wheel. He was thrown from the bike and suffered significant injuries. Due to a head injury, the teen was airlifted from the scene. Village Police say the boy was not wearing a helmet when the accident happened.
Charter Spectrum Renews 60 Day Free WiFi for Student Households
Charter Spectrum is renewing its offer for 60 days of free Wi-Fi service for households with K-12 or college students six months after the original offer at the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic.The offer applies to households in the company’s service area that do not already have Spectrum service. It does not apply to households where the company does not currently have service. After 60 days regular rates will apply. The company also has a program called Spectrum Internet Assist for low income households and seniors that costs $14.99 per month and includes a free modem, a broadband connection at 30 megabits per second, and an option to add Wi-Fi accessibility at $5 per month.

NYS Extends Moratorium on Evictions to October
This week, New York State announced an extension of the state’s moratorium on COVID-related commercial evictions to now run through October 20th. Protections are extended by the measure already in place for commercial tenants and mortgagors in recognition of the financial toll the pandemic has taken on business owners. The protection extension gives commercial tenants and mortgagors additional time to catch up on rent or mortgages or renegotiate their lease terms in order to prevent foreclosure. The measure was implemented in mid-March.
Five States Added to NYS Travel Advisory
Five new states including Arizona, Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, and Wyoming-have been added to New York State’s COVID-19 travel advisory. The advisory requires those who have traveled to New York from areas with significant community spread to quarantine for 14 days.
