School Supply Distribution for Bath Students Thursday 
Bath Central School District students are encouraged to pick up free school supplies at a drive-thru distribution happening Thursday morning hosted by GST BOCES. Thursday from 9 to 11am, district parents and students can drive to Primary School bus loop, through the Dana Lyon Middle School parking lot, to get what they need. Walkers will also be accommodated and masks are required while everyone must adhere to social distancing guidelines. GST BOCES says supplies include backpacks, crayons, pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, scissors, notebooks, filler papers, glue sticks, pencil pouches, ear buds, and more. Items will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis.

 

Prattsburgh Requests Tax Payments Be Mailed
Prattsburgh Central School is preparing to send out tax bills and requesting that everyone mail their tax payments this year to Tax Collector Cassie Kennard, to avoid contact with students and staff and to follow health and safety protocols for the tax collection season. Receipts will be mailed to taxpayers and anyone with issues or questions can call Cassie Kennard at 522-6203 to discuss options.

 

County Legislature Incentivizes Early Retirement to Offset Losses
This year, the Steuben County Legislature will begin to offer early retirement incentives as a way to offset significant losses in local sales tax revenues and state funding for mandated services due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Steuben officials are hoping long-time employees will begin voluntary retirements to reduce the county’s looming budget shortfall, which is now estimated internally at $5.7 million, pending state funding reductions.

 

Latest COVID Case is City of Hornell Resident
The Steuben County Public Health Department reports an additional Steuben County resident tested positive for COVID-19 since Saturday and brings the total to 323 confirmed cases, four of which are currently active.  The individual is a resident of the City of Hornell and is isolated and being monitored by the County Health Department. 

 

Reed Signs Letter to Hold Canada to Dairy Agreement
Corning Republican Tom Reed joined a hundred other members of Congress who signed a letter calling on the US Trade Representative and Agriculture Secretary to hold Canada to provisions made in the recently-signed USMCA trade agreement which is to open their dairy markets to American farmers. Congressman Reed says when it comes to letting foreign producers into its marketplace, Canada has been reluctant.

 

Reed Votes For $25 Billion USPS Funding Measure
Congressmen Tom Reed joined 24 other Republicans and 231 Democrats to vote in favor of the measure providing $25 billion in USPS funding while blocking any operational changes until after November’s elections. It is unlikely that the bill will pass the GOP-controlled Senate, but if it does, the White House said the bill would be vetoed.

 

Ticket Sales Start for 2021 FLX Wine Fest
Ticket sales have now begun for the 2021 Finger Lakes Wine Festival at Watkins Glen International next summer. The festival is celebrating its 25th anniversary from July 9th-11th, 2021 at the track by welcoming more than 90 New York wineries, in addition to regional chefs, vendors, and visitors.
