State Senator Tom O’Mara says he is calling for investigations and hearings regarding the Governor’s handling of the nursing home crisis New York State faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. O’Mara says he has been working with Congressman Tom Reed to hopefully conduct federal, independent hearings regarding the nursing home outbreaks. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says the Trump Administration taking healthcare away from millions of Americans during this unprecedented global pandemic would be “sinful and cruel.” The junior Senator made the statement in response to the administration’s attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Friday, the Trump Administration filed a brief with the United States Supreme Court but this case will not be heard until the fall. The Healthcare Association of New York State estimates nearly 3 million New Yorkers could lose coverage if so-called the ACA is repealed without a suitable replacement.

During a recent Community Focus interview, State Senator Tom O’Mara shared his input regarding the recent start of the fourth phase of reopening the economy in our area. Though O’Mara had an overall positive outlook on embarking on the final phase of reopening, he disagrees with Governor Cuomo on putting a halt to the opening malls, bars and gyms in the final phase. O’Mara believes with the peak spread of COVID-19 behind us, the state could have reopened our region sooner. The State Senator said the urgency should now be put in reviving our local economy. To hear the interview tune into the WVIN morning show this Thursday around 8:30am or hear the entirety of the interview available online at:https://wvinbath.com/podcasts/community
