Community Bank and Steuben Citizens Close Branch Lobbies
Community Bank, N.A. announced it will close all branch lobbies today and operate solely via drive-through. Steuben Citizens FCU made the same decision yesterday. Both banks have done so as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Community Bank NA says all branch lobbies will be available by appointment only, including locations with and without drive—thru.
County Offices Closed to Public Walk-ins
Steuben County offices will remain closed to public walk-ins until Wednesday, March 25 to promote social distancing efforts and to comply with onsite staff reduction requirements for local governments. The public can call to each department to schedule appointments for services.
Bath Man and Campbell Man Wanted by Sheriff
Steuben County Sheriff’s Deputies are looking for a man whose last known address was at 18 W. Steuben Street in Bath. A warrant has been issued for 26-year-old Tony A. Cole. He is wanted for felony criminal possession of a controlled substance. Deputies are also actively looking for 51-year-old Jonathan N. Cook. Deputies say his last known address was Forty Dollar Road in Campbell. He’s wanted on a warrant for attempted second-degree forgery.
Hammondsport Board of Education Moves Meeting to Next Week
Hammondsport Central School Board of Education announces it has moved the regular meeting scheduled for yesterday to Wednesday March 25th 7:30am at the High School Library.
Walmart and TOPS Change Store Hours
Beginning today, Walmart stores will be open from 7am to 8:30pm. The chain has also shut down its Auto Care centers temporarily to focus on stocking and cleaning. Walmart also announced from March 24th to April 28th every Thursday will be an hour-long senior shopping event for customers 60 and older an hour before stores normally open. Tops will also open their doors exclusively to seniors from 6:00 – 7:30 am every Tuesday and Thursday.
Cuomo Orders Non-Essential Businesses Work From Home
Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced he will issue an executive order directing non-essential businesses to implement work-from-home policies effective Friday, March 20th. The Governor confirmed 1,008 new cases of novel coronavirus, bringing the statewide total to 2,382 confirmed cases in New York State.
Cuomo Joins Governor’s Regional Coalition to Fight COVID-19
Governor Cuomo has joined the Governors of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut to form a regional coalition to combat COVID-19. The four governors announced all four states will close indoor portions of retail shopping malls, amusement parks and bowling alleys by 8pm tonight. The action is intended to limit crowd capacity and prevent the transmission of coronavirus.
Cuomo Announces USNS Comfort to Be Deployed
Yesterday, Governor Cuomo announced the USNS Comfort will be deployed to New York harbor and will arrive in April. The USNS Comfort is a 1,000-bed hospital ship with 12 fully-equipped operating rooms. Cuomo says utilizing the ship will significantly increase New York’s hospital surge capacity. Cuomo meets leadership of the Army Corp of Engineers today to discuss ways to increase hospital capacity in New York.
