Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports deputies arrested Derek Clark of Bath. Deputies responded to a Bonny Hill Road address in January 2020 to investigate a report of three abandoned dogs. Clark allegedly moved from a previous residence and abandoned three puppies alongside the road on Bonny Hill Road. The dogs were recovered and turned over to the Thurston Dog Control Officer who then turned them over to the Finger Lakes SPCA for treatment and examination. Clark was charged with three counts of Overdriving:Fail to Feed and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Thurston Town Court.

February 26th is the deadline to make reservations for the Steuben County Youth Bureau Board’s Annual Awards Dinner recognizing Lita Brown and Kerry Elsasser. The dinner takes place March 4th from 5:30 to 7:45pm at the Bath Country Club. The cost for the event is $22. A Winter Weather Advisory continues until 4pm for Yates and Steuben counties today. Heavy mixed precipitation of 5 to 8 inches of snow and ice accumulations of a light glaze is anticipated. Travel may be very difficult. Expect blowing snow to reduce visibility in driving conditions this afternoon. Scattered power outages also possible. The National Weather Service recommends keeping an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency if traveling.The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

In a Wednesday conference call with reporters on Wednesday, Rep. Reed shared his thoughts regarding Trump's Tuesday State of the Union Address. Referencing to Pelosi's “ripping up speeches and things like that and handshakes,” Reed thinks was an act of partisanship. Reed was recently named Honorary Campaign Chair for the President's New York re-election campaign. Democratic Challenger for the 23rd Congressional Seat Tracy Mitrano remarked that before politics, Trump’s former life before as a television personality placed “so much focus on theatrics.”  and also mentioned corruption in Washington has been apparent “top from Mr. Trump on down to our congressman.”

County Administration Committee Meets Tuesday 2/11
The Steuben County Administration Committee meets the morning of Tuesday February 11th and will discuss the quarterly paper award, personnel updates and changes as well as reclassification of the Office of Community Services. Also to be discussed is the authorization to hire an Assistant Dictrict Attorney and a Part-Time District Attorney. The Committee meets Tuesday morning at 9.

County Finance Committee Meets Tuesday 2/11
Steuben County Finance Committee meets Tuesday morning February 11th at 9:30 to discuss renewing the State Criminal Alien Assistant Program Grant for 2019. Budget Appropriation for various agencies and a Budget Transfer worth $24,000  for equipment to the Public Works Department. Also to be discussed is the waiver to authorize hiring of a Conflict Defender, Part-Time District Attorney and Typist.

The Mayor of Hornell, City Fire and Police Chiefs as well as other County and City Officials held a press conference yesterday at the Hornell Police Department to discuss the Preston Avenue Fire plans. The County landfill will not charge to dispose of the fire debris. Mayor Buckley explained that the properties have been deeded over to the City of Hornell and cleaned up.  By  2021, homes will be built on the land by the BOCES program.
