Goodrich Auto Restores Avoca Fire Truck
Goodrich Auto Works helped the Avoca Fire Department restore their late-90s model fire truck needing a lot of attention. Goodrich Owner Aaron Kisiah said the project involved body, corrosion and rust work as well as new paint and graphics. The $17,000 project was covered by a donation from Goodrich Auto Works in honor of Kris Goodrich who passed away last year from cancer. The refurbishing project was a way to give back to the Avoca community that is the birthplace of Goodrich Body Shop in 1977. Avoca firefighter Nick Kowalcyk expressed his appreciation for the donation, commenting: “We take pride in our trucks, and so we were very fortunate..."

Addison Woman Arrested for Impersonation
A 22-year-old woman from Addison was arrested Tuesday after an incident. Tyler Leasure was charged with second-degree criminal impersonation and arrested on a bench warrant. Leasure will return to court at a later date.

NYS Plastic Bag Ban Taking Place March 1st
As the plastic bag ban approaches soon, grocery stores are bracing for the change, despite the uncertainty about who exactly will enforce the new policy. March 1st is the official start of the ban but some stores like Wegmans have already stopped issuing single-use plastic bags. New York state will be the only agency policing this law and violations will cost $250 for the first time and $500 for every violation that follows in the same calendar year.

Law Signed to Make Beer Flights Tax Free
The wine and beer industry may be getting a boost from the legislation signed Monday by Governor Andrew Cuomo. A bill introduced by State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo exempts flights of beer from being taxed. The aim of the move is to help the beer and wine industry grow further and generate billions of dollars in taxes which could give our wine-country economy a boost.

County Administration Committee Meets Tuesday 2/11
The Steuben County Administration Committee meets the morning of Tuesday February 11th and will discuss the quarterly paper award, personnel updates and changes as well as reclassification of the Office of Community Services. The Committee meets Tuesday morning at 9.

County Finance Committee Meets Tuesday 2/11
Steuben County Finance Committee meets Tuesday morning February 11th at 9:30 to discuss renewing the State Criminal Alien Assistant Program Grant for 2019, accepting the Trinity/Swanson Grant and accepting and appropriating additional EISEP funds for Office For the Aging. Budget Appropriation for various agencies and a Budget Transfer worth $24,000 to the Public Works Department for major equipment and utilities in 2019 budget. Emergency Management matters included the acceptance of a 2019 fiscal year SICG grant.
