Winter weather advisory

 

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard warns drivers to be careful on the roads. Though several counties have been issued weather advisories, Allard is particularly warning drivers about Southern Steuben County. Due to the icy roadways and multiple crashes reported on both primary and secondary roads, the Sheriff's Office ask people to not do any unnecessary travel and to be aware of elevated areas and ice on the road.

 

BEGWS Power shutdown

 

Bath Electric Gas and Water Systems had to shut power off this morning for a portion of the village of Bath due to di necessary storm related repair that had to be done.  The loss of power was only about 5 minutes with repair reported to be complete and power restored

 

Steuben Rural Electric reports widespread outages

 

Steuben Rural Electric reports multiple outages they are working on.  The loss of power is related to storm damage and are widespread. Crews are working on repairs and power restoration time varies from area by area.

 

State Troopers May Get Body Cameras

 

Some New York lawmakers have proposed to equip state troopers with body cameras. New York is one of few states like Rhode Island, Hawaii, New Hampshire and Massachusetts where the primary law enforcement agency isn't required to have body or dashboard cameras already. The proposal was introduced in the fall and would outline when New York State Police should record their interactions on-duty. State Police did comment cameras are effective investigative tools but did not comment on the proposed legislation.

 

Red Cross Accepting Nominations for Real Heroes Breakfast

 

The American Red Cross of the Finger Lakes is now accepting nominations for the Real Heroes Breakfast held on March 27th at the Corning Museum of Glass. The breakfast honors those who have shown “courage, dedication and unselfish character by their acts of heroism and service in our community”. Proceeds from the annual breakfast will benefit the Finger Lakes Chapter serving Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Seneca, Wayne and Yates counties. The deadline for nominations is December 6.
