Community Bank Merges with Steuben Trust
Community Bank announced it is acquiring the Hornell-based banking chain Steuben Trust. The $106 million transaction has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies. Community Bank has dozens of branches spanning several states while Steuben Trust has 16 locations in the region. The merger is expected to close in the second quarter of 2020 and is subject to customary closing conditions, including approval by the shareholders of Steuben Trust Corporation and required regulatory approvals. Steuben Trust Company was originally organized in 1902 as the Bank of Steuben.


Construction Closes State Route 83
From today through Friday, weather permitting, State Route 36 will be closed approximately 0.5 miles south of Troupsburg between Old State Road and County Route 83.  This closure is necessary for replacement of a culvert.  Traffic will be detoured along Old State Road and County Route 83 while work is being conducted.


Mobile Mammography Center Visit Bath Tomorrow
Steuben County Public Health officials urge women to participate in the Rochester Regional Health’s Mobile Mammography Center’s breast cancer screenings tomorrow from 10am to 3pm at the Steuben County Office Building in Bath. Screenings are available to everyone, regardless of insurance coverage. The center will provide 3-D mammography screenings from certified technologists and an evaluation of the results by board-certified radiologists. Screenings take an average of only 15 minutes. Student Struck in Corning Yesterday
Yesterday evening, a student was struck in Corning on Denison Parkway by a gray SUV and flown to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated. According to Corning Police Sgt. Andrew Frisbie, the student was crossing from the southside heading north. The extent of the student’s injuries are at the time unknown. Patrolmen interviewed the driver of the gray SUV at the Corning PD. Frisbie says the investigation of this incident is ongoing.


Wreaths Across America Sponsorship Begins Today
Wreath sponsorship for Wreaths Across America Day has begun. Those interested in donating a wreath for the Wreaths Across America Day that will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14th, in Bath National Cemetery at the Bath VA Medical Center can be made online  by Nov. 29th. The individual wreaths are $15 and are tax-deductible. The public is invited to participate in the wreath laying ceremony on December 14th beginning at 11:30am. This year’s theme is “Everyone Plays a Part”.


One Life Flighted Last Night from Campbell
It was reported that last night, at least one person was life-flighted from Campbell. According to WETM, the helicopter landed in the parking lot of the Campbell Alliance Church and left shortly before 5:40pm last night. More information will be available for this developing story as more details emerge and are released.


CCC Ranked #5 in Community Colleges By Niche
SUNY Corning Community College has been ranked fifth in New York State among its fellow community colleges by Niche for the year 2020. CCC President Dr. William Mullaney said “We are thrilled to have earned this distinction.” According to niche.com, the ranking is based on analysis and assessment of faculty, diversity, student life, value, safety and location gathered from data sets, reviews and survey responses. SUNY CCC earned a grade of B- for niche.com in the year 2020.
