Cuomo Signs Off on Pelvic Exam Consent Law
Governor Andrew Cuomo signed off on a measure to prohibit conducting pelvic exams without informed consent on patients who are under anesthesia or unconscious. Cuomo made an announcement about the law yesterday, saying it will become law in 180 days. About a dozen other states have introduced similar bills this year requiring patients to give explicit approval to a pelvic exam before it occurs.

 

County Sheriff Arrests 5 in Warrant Sweep
Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports that from September 24 to October 3rd, deputies of the Steuben Sheriff’s Office Warrant Squad arrested five people in the county due to active warrants. Tyler Brennan of Corning, Dylan Walker of Bath, Zachery Fretz of Corning, Christopher Wyatt Gee from Mansfield, PA and Michael Swartz of Painted Post were all issued warrants out of Steuben County Court arrested on violations of probation and remanded to Steuben County Jail. Sheriff Jim Allard credited and thanked Chemung County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Corning Police for their help and cooperation with the sweep.

 

Steuben County Women Holds Open House
Steuben County Women will be holding an Open House tomorrow to celebrate their 86th anniversary and the 100th year anniversary of NYS Women Inc. The event is tomorrow evening at the Finger Lakes SPCA in Bath from 5 to 7pm. Attendees will learn about the organization, its programs and opportunities as well as the other groups it works with and assists. Second County Vulnerable Youth Summit Set for October 23rd
The second annual Steuben County Vulnerable Youth Summit is set for October 23rd at the Bath Volunteer Fire Department from 8:30 to 11:45 am. This year’s summit will focus on the issue of Human Trafficking and how to prevent it with keynote speaker Salka Valerio sharing her account of what it’s like to survive trafficking. The summit also includes an overview of the school curriculum “Not a Number” to teach children ages 12-18 how to recognize and prevent human trafficking. Several Committees to Meet At County Building
A few Steuben County legislative committees meet at the county office building at today’s meeting. The Administration Committees will assemble at 9, the Finance Committee will meet after at 9:30 and there will be a budget workshop immediately after the Finance session.

 

Savona Man Arrested for DWI
A Savona man is facing multiple charges after being pulled over on State Route 415 in Campbell. State Police said they arrested John C. Heskell. He was charged by Troopers with driving while intoxicated, having a BAC above .08%, drinking alcohol in a vehicle on the highway and an equipment violation. He was processed and released to a third party pending an appearance in court.
