Exit 43 Westbound Ramp on I-86 Closed Today
?The Interstate 86 westbound ramp at Exit 43 in Painted Post will be closed to traffic beginning today. The closure is necessary to make repairs to the concrete approach slab.  Work is anticipated to last one day, weather permitting. Motorists should use Coopers Plains Exit 42 during the closure. Motorists may experience minor travel delays.

 

Three Arrested for Impaired Driving in Steuben County
Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrests of three people from September 7th to the 11th for allegedly driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol. Deputies arrested Steven Wheeler on Route 115 in the town of Lindley on September 11th and Amy Pickering of Addison in Painted Post both for Driving While Intoxicated. Also arrested: 22-year-old Brandon Rawleigh of Wayland on Route 63 on September 9th for allegedly Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, consuming an alcoholic beverage while in the vehicle and moving from lane unsafely.  Each person was released on traffic summons and will re-appear in town courts at later dates.

 

Fire Deparments Receive Over $498K in Federal Funding
Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have announced more than $498,000 in federal funding for three fire departments in the Southern Tier. Specifically, the Binghamton Fire Department will receive $417,000, the Corning Volunteer Fire Department will receive nearly $55,000 and the Endicott Fire Department will receive $26,000. The funding was allocated through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Corning fire chief Brad Davies said the funding will be used to purchase new hydraulic rescue tools.

 

Campbell Woman Arrested for DWI
Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Campbell woman for impaired driving. Sarah Radmore, age 30, of Campbell, was pulled over for a traffic stop and charged with Felony Driving While Intoxicated, Felony Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with .18% blood alcohol content and failure to keep right.  It is alleged that Radmore operated a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition and was previously convicted of Driving While Intoxicated within the past 10 years. She  was released on traffic summons to appear in Campbell Town Court at a later date.  

 

Bath Man Arrested for Menacing
Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Bath man for menacing. Deputies arrested David E Long, age 51, after they responded to a report of shots fired at a premise on State Route 54 in the Town of Urbana.  The investigation revealed that Mr. Long allegedly displayed a handgun during a property dispute incident and then fired the handgun in the close proximity of others. Long was charged with Menacing in the Second Degree (by use of a weapon) and four counts of Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree. Mr. Long was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.

 

NY Gun Purchase Waiting Period Extended to 30 Days
The waiting period on certain New York gun purchases has been extended from three days to 30 days under state law. The bill went into effect Thursday. Gov. Cuomo says the change will save lives and he called on the federal government to pass universal background checks. The law applies in cases where a federal background check returns an inconclusive response. Extending the state waiting period will give federal authorities more time for the background checks.

 

Mill Road in Howard to be Closed Monday
Road work has been announced for Mill Road in Howard beginning this Monday September 16th. The project is to replace piping and should be finished by Wednesday the 18th but hopefully Tuesday evening, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to use Demmon Pond Road and Rice Road as detours until construction is completed.
