PA Man Ticketed After Vehicle Rolls Over on SR 36
A 911 call yesterday dispatched New York State Police to a rolled over vehicle on State Route 36 in Canisteo yesterday. Upon police arriving at the scene, it was discovered the operator of the vehicle had fled the accident. The vehicle overturned after traveling north on SR 36 at a high speed, changing lanes and striking the guard wire then traveled 125 feet. Police say the vehicle took out 11 posts, 2 delineators and 1 road sign. After overturning, the vehicle got tangled in the guard wire, finally coming to a stop about 75 off of the roadway. NYS DOT responded by coning off the area and getting the vehicle towed. NYSP were able to locate the owner and operator of the vehicle, 23-year-old Dustin Williams from Westfield, PA, and issued him tickets for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, speeding and unsafe lane change.

 

OFA Receives $47K Grant
Steuben County Office for the Aging will receive a boost in services made possible by a $47,000 grant from the New York State Office for the Aging. The grant worth exactly $47,179 was written to the agency for “Unmet Need Funding”. OFA Director Patty Baroody says these funds will be used “to ease the burden of our waiting lists for home care and respite and the ever-increasing demand for transportation.” Baroody specified that funds will be divided between the Institute for Human Services, AIM and other respite and home services. 

 

Steuben Area Sex Offender Arrested for Luring Dundee Minor
State Police report the arrest of a registered sex offender from Steuben County on rape charges. Paul Davis, age 31, is accused of luring a Dundee area child under the age of 17 to have sexual contact with him at his Canisteo residence. Davis’ history stems back to 2007 when he served 6 months in prison for a sexual abuse conviction that year for having sexual contact with a 16-year-old Canandaigua girl. 

 

Savona Man Jailed for Failure to Pay Child Support
A Savona man was sent to Schuyler County Jail on a Family Court warrant for his alleged failure to pay owed child support. The respondent allegedly was previously found in willful violation of an existing court order because he failed to pay $475 in back child support for his two children plus an additional $344 in judgments. The subject failed to appear in court for sentencing last month, prompting the warrant being issued for his arrest. The man was located in Steuben County after it was discovered he was on probation in the county for an unrelated crime. The man, whose name was not released to protect the identity of his children, was sent to Schuyler County and sent to jail in lieu of bail. 

 

Dansville Man Sentenced for Child Porn Charges
A 42-year-old Dansville man was sentenced to prison by US District Judge Richard J. Arcara. Ryan C. Lander was sentenced to 21 years in prison after he was investigated by Homeland Security after it was discovered he posted images on a website known for child exploitation. After searching his electronic devices, it was found Lander had two minor victims engage in explicit conduct he recorded between the months of July 2011 and March 2013.

 

NYSP Arrested for Drug and Traffic Charges
State Police arrested a driver in the Town of Bath for driving while impaired by drugs on Interstate 86. Steuben County 911 reported to police that a vehicle was driving erratically in the Town of Wheeler, then to Prattsburg and then back to the Town of Bath before getting on the highway. The driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Thomas Aldrich of Horseheads, was allegedly unable to tell police where he was coming from and said he was on his way to Pine Valley in Elmira but thought he would stop in Bath to go to Taco Bell. Aldrich was unable to complete roadside sobriety checks and police say they found a baggy of crystal meth on the rear passenger floor board. He was arrested at the Bath station for operating a motor vehicle impaired by drugs, reckless driving and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was arraigned and sent to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $2,000

cash or $4,000 bond.
