Painted Post Man Pleads Guilty to Possessing Child Pornography:

 

A Painted Post man has pled guilty to the possession of child pornography.  56-year-old Christopher Kelly will be sentenced in October.  The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.  According to the Assistant U.S. Attorney, in April 2018, an undercover FBI Special Agent determined that a computer at Kelly’s address in Painted Post was sharing child pornography.  In November 2018 a federal search warrant was executed and several of Kelly’s digital devices were seized.  An analysis revealed more than 200 images and five videos containing child pornography as well as children being subjected to violence.

 

 

Corning Man Accused of Selling Meth:

 

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of 33-year-old Joshua Vreeland of Corning for allegedly engaging in the sale of methamphetamine in the area of Corning.  The arrest is based on a sealed indictment warrant resulting from an investigation by the county Drug Initiative.  Vreeland was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal sale of a controlled substance.  He was arraigned and sent to the county jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

 

 

False Document Filing Arrest:

 

A Bath man has been arrested for allegedly knowingly filing false documents with the Steuben County Department of Social Services.  According to the county Sheriff’s Department, 60-year-old Leonard Youngs of Bath presented four false documents to DSS.  He was charged with four counts of offering a false instrument for filing and was released on an appearance ticket.

 

 

Drive-Thru Dunkin Possibly Coming to Bath:

 

A Dunkin Drive-thru only store is among three applications that will soon be reviewed during a public hearing conducted by the Village of Bath Planning Board. The hearing is scheduled for August 8th at 5:30 p.m. The other applications propose the construction of a two-story commercial building on an empty lot at 45 Liberty Street and the construction of a 64-unit apartment complex at 7181 State Route 54.

 

 

Corning, Inc. Posts Second Quarter Highlights:

 

Corning, Inc. has released its highlights for the second quarter of 2019.  The company saw increases in core sales and in core Earnings Per Share over the same period last year, and officials say all businesses remain on track for full-year sales growth.  The report also shows increases for the company in sales in environmental and display technologies, and specialty materials. 

 

 

Planned Burns for Finger Lakes National Forest:

 

30 acres of the Finger Lakes National Forest is set to burn in planned fires over the next two weeks, according to officials.  The fires will be used to clear overgrown brush and grass, and to restore declining wildlife habitat.  The Forest Service advises nearby residents and motorists that smoke may be visible and may briefly impact adjacent roads.  Signs will be posted if any forest roads or trails need to be temporarily closed.  The Finger Lakes National Forest is located between Seneca and Cayuga lakes.
