Bath Man Arrested for Allegedly Selling Methamphetamine
The Bath Police Department reports the arrest of a Bath man on a sealed indictment Superior Court warrant for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree. Bath Police arrested Damian C. Vanvleck of West William Street. He was arraigned in Steuben County Court and released on his own recognizance to re-appear in court.

 

Pennsylvania Man Arrested for Grand Larceny in Erwin
Steuben County Sheriffs report the arrest of a Pennsylvania man following reports of theft of laptop computers from a retail establishment in Erwin. It is alleged that 23 year old Nathan D. Krager of Towanda, Pennsylvania stole property valued in excess of $1,000. Krager was located on Bailey Road in Corning, New York and was alleged to be in possession of suspected heroin. Krager was charged with one count of Grand Larceny in the fourth degree, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Krager was arraigned in Steuben County Centralized Arraignment Court and released to appear in Erwin Town Court at a later date. 

 

Hornell Man Identified as Victim in Canisteo Train Accident 
A man struck by a train and killed in Canisteo earlier this week on Tuesday has been identified. State Police report that Ronald Boone, a 62-year-old Hornell man, was the victim hit by a Norfolk Southern Freight Train at approximately 10pm Tuesday night. Boone was struck on the tracks near Magee Road in Canisteo and pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation resumes and police say thus far, no charges are anticipated to be pressed.

 

Yesterday’s Mobile Home Fire Remains Under Investigation
A structure fire that happened yesterday in the Village of Bath resulted in the Bath Volunteer Fire Department being dispatched along with units from Hammondsport, Savona, Kanona as well as the Bath Volunteer Ambulance Corps responding to the blaze on 35 Ash Street. The home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage but the owner of the home did escape safely from the home with her pet cats. The Steuben County Fire Investigation Team was requested to the scene to determine the cause of the fire, which is still currently under investigation. 

 

New York State Outlaws Cat Declawing
This week, New York State became the first state in the country to ban the practice of cat declawing after Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an anti-declawing bill into law and called the practice “inhumane” and “unnecessary”. The new law dictates that anyone who performs a declawing procedure in New York State faces a $1,000 fine. 

 

WGI Named Second in USA Today Contest
Watkins Glen International has been recognized by USA Today in their Readers’ Choice Contest, finishing second in the list of Best NASCAR Tracks across the country. Yesterday, the newspaper named Ohio’s “The Big E” Eldora Speedway as the 1st place choice for best NASCAR Track. Watkins Glen International did place first the last three years of this contest. Auto Club Speedway in California, Daytona International Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway made the list’s top five picks.
