Suspect Arrested for Bridge Street Burglary
Corning Police Department reports officers made an arrest in connection to an investigation into a Bridge Street burglary that happened in the early morning hours of June 13th. Police say they arrested 37-year-old Zachary Winderl of Corning following a tip that he was the one behind the June 13th burglary. Winderl was sent to the Steuben County Jail to be arraigned after being charged with third degree burglary, third degree criminal mischief and petit larceny.


Sheriff’s Office Cautions Boaters of High Waters
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office navigation patrol reports high water and debris in Keuka and Waneta Lakes due to heavy rains this week. All boaters are cautioned that floating and hidden debris can be a hazard to navigation. Boaters are cautioned to be observant of floating tree limbs, branches, logs, and other debris in the water. New York State Navigation Law on Keuka Lake requires the boating speed limit to be no more than 5 mph within 200 feet of shore. Obstructions are often floating or submerged near the shorelines.


Horseheads Man Arrested for Drugs and Driving Unlicensed
An 89-year-old man from Horesheads and his passenger were arrested following a one-car accident in the town of Seneca Falls. Frank Louisell said he misjudged the proximity of an oncoming car while making a turn, causing him to swerve and leave the roadway. Louisell was charged with driving on a suspended license, criminal possession of a controlled substance and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. His passenger from Seneca Falls was found walking away from the scene then charged with consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Both suspects are expected to appear again in Seneca Falls Town Court.


Hammondsport Woman Arrested for Assault
A Hammondsport woman is in Steuben County Jail after Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of an assault in progress at a town of Urbana residence. 46-year-old Kelly Harris allegedly “assaulted someone by means of a weapon or dangerous instrument.” Harris was arrested and charged with assault before being held in the county jail without bail.


Wayland Man Arrested on DWI Charges
A Steuben County man faces multiple counts when he was arrested during a traffic stop in Groveland. 27-year-old Casey Barrett of Wayland was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a 5-month-old in the vehicle. Deputies said the child was not buckled into a child restraint seat properly. Barrett was also charged with felony first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, endangering the welfare of a child and other counts. While being processed deputies learned Barrett also had outstanding warrant. He was arraigned and committed to the Livingston County Jail in lieu of bail.


Historic Tappan Zee Parts Used on Lyons Hollow Road Bridge Project
Two deck panels of the Historic Tappan Zee Bridge were installed Friday as part of the latest bridge replacement work on the Lyons Hollow Road Bridge in the Town of Prattsburgh. The 10-year-old panels were retrieved from the Tappan Zee Bridge after its demolition in 2017. County Engineer Steve Catherman says the panels will be placed on stub concrete abutments, with concrete back walls and wing walls. The Prattsburgh bridge will be newly-galvanized and completed with approach guide railing, roughly costing Steuben County $55,000 to update.
