Fire in Hornell:


First responders were called to Bennett Street in Hornell Tuesday afternoon for a fire at a home.  Officials say the fire started in an unattended oven.  The family of eight were able to escape the home unharmed and damage to the home is said to minimal. 



2 Arrested in Corning Traffic Stop:


A traffic stop on Wall Street in Corning resulted in the arrests of two people Monday.  20-year-old Raini Giglio and 28-year-old Carissa Liberti, both of Budget Inn, East Corning were both arrested after their vehicle was pulled over at about 9:45 p.m. and officers discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Seneca Falls.  They were both charged with criminal possession of stolen property and were sent to the Steuben County Jail.  The vehicle was towed from the scene.



$1.6M Grant Awarded to Southern Tier Tobacco Awareness Coalition:


The New York State Department of Health has awarded the Southern Tier Tobacco Awareness Coalition a $1.6 million grant.  The funds, which will be broken up over five years, will be used to pay for staffing and programs.  The STTAC aims to reduce tobacco use across Steuben, Chemung, and Schuyler counties.  The grant goes into effect on July 1st.     



Haverling B.O.E. Meeting:


The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Board of Education of the Haverling Central School District will be held tomorrow, Thursday, June 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library.  Additionally, the B.O.E. will meet in special executive session at 5:30 p.m. in the District Office.  The purpose of the special meeting/executive session is for the annual Board performance review of the superintendent of schools.



Corning’s Denison Park Pool to Open Tomorrow:


Corning’s popular summer stop, the Denison Park Pool will open to the public for the season tomorrow, Thursday, June 20th.  Hours will be limited from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and June 24th through June 27th.  Regular hours will be noon to 5:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, noon to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.  The Stewart Park Pool is still in need of repairs and its opening will be delayed.

The Hornell Simmons Rockwell dealership is being recognized for exceptional service.  The dealership is the recipient of the 2018 President’s Award for outstanding customer service.  As outlined in the award letter, to qualify a dealership must “exhibit quality business practices and Ford’s core principles,” showing unmatched quality in customer service and satisfaction, achieve and exceed company sales projections, follow through on commitments, and provide fix it the first-time service.  Only the top 10 percent of all Ford dealerships across the country receive the award.  This the first time that the Hornell Simmons Rockwell has received the award.
