Lobes Found Guilty of Assault
A Corning man was found guilty for the assault of a female at his home back in September 2018. Gary Lobes was found guilty of second degree assault, attempted second and third degree assault and criminal mischief for strangling and beating a 26 year old victim on her body, face, hands and feet. Lobes will return to Steuben County Court at 10:30 a.m. on July 12th for sentencing and is currently held at Steuben County Jail. Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker remarked about the case: “This is a case of pervasive domestic violence and the Corning Police Department went above and beyond in their efforts to investigate and bring this person to justice.”
Lane Closure on State Route 54A in Urbana
Construction continues on State Route 54A in the Town of Urbana. Traffic has been reduced to one lane about 0.5 miles north of the Village of Hammondsport. Both directions of traffic are accommodated in one lane using temporary traffic signals. This lane closure has been implemented due to a landslide, and is expected to be in place for an extended period while repair options are evaluated and designed.
Canisteo Man Arrested for DWI
A Canisteo man was arrested on DWI charges following a traffic stop in Hornell. Steuben County Sheriffs say deputies arrested Peter B. Macchiaroli for allegedly operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition with a blood alcohol content above .18% Macchiaroli was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated. He was released on traffic summons to appear in the Hornellsville Town Court at a later date.
Bath Man Arrested for Drug Charges
The Village of Bath Police Department arrested a Bath man for drug charges for allegedly selling methamphetamine on at least 2 occasions in the Village of Bath. Ted M. Hackett had 2 Superior Court Arrest Warrants and was found to be in possession of crystal methamphetamine. Hackett was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree as well as Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Hackett was arraigned in Steuben County Court then remanded to Steuben County Jail with his bail set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond on each indictment.
Tops Stores Begins Stars for Our Troops Initiative
The Stars for Our Troops initiative at Tops Friendly Markets began yesterday to help customers properly retire their tattered and worn American flags by taking the flags as donations at many of the store’s locations around the Finger Lakes until June 22nd. Tops is accepting flags in honor of Flag Day on June 14th and Independence Day next month as a way to express their thanks and respect to veterans. The flags will be used by partner veteran organizations for their embroidered stars to be presented to local service men and women. The Tops in Dansville and Elmira will be participating this year in the Stars for Our Troops Initiative.
