Campbell Man Pleads Guilty to October Collision Charges
Campbell man Robert Neally pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated yesterday in Steuben County Court for an October 2018 collision on State Route 415 in Campbell resulting in the death of Terry Hill, a man who was a chief of the Lindley-Presho Fire Department. Neally initially pleaded not guilty but accepted a plea agreement Friday offered by Steuben DA Brooks Baker. The maximum sentence for these charges is 5-15 years in state prison according to Baker. Neally will be sentenced in county court the morning of  May 24th.


County Sheriff’s Office to Hold Rx Drug Take Back Day
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office will host a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day a week from today on Saturday April 27th from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. The event will take place at the Steuben County Public Safety Building on 7007 Rumsey Street Extension in Bath. All citizens of the community are welcome to drop off any unwanted and unnecessary prescription medications to ensure public safety. Medications from any Pharmacy, Facility, Organization or Company prescribed by law to dispose of safe will not be accepted at this event.


Bridge Work Begins in Wheeler and Howard
Preliminary work on Steuben County bridges is underway, with eight projects slated for work in 2019. Currently, work is in progress on Spaulding Road over 10 Mile Creek in the Town of Wheeler and Nicholson Road over Campbell Creek in the Town of Howard. Plans call for the work to be completed by June. Projects slated to get underway next month include Beartown Road over Weaver Hollow Creek in the Town of Erwin and Lyons Hollow Road over Lyons Creek in the Town of Prattsburgh.


Wayne Slope Repair on State Route 54 Begins Monday
The New York State Department of Transportation announced yesterday that slope repair work will begin on Monday on State Route 54 in the town of Wayne, near the intersection of Hines Road.  Traffic will be reduced to a single lane. Work is anticipated to be completed this month, weather permitting. Motorists will be directed through the work zone by flaggers, and should anticipate delays.


State Route 54A to be Closed Next Week for Landslide Repairs
The New York State Department of Transportation says that continuing work to repair a landslide on State Route 54A in the town of Urbana requires that the road be closed starting next week.  The location is about 2.5 miles north of the Village of Hammondsport. The closure is expected to be in place approximately six weeks with at least one lane open by Memorial Day Weekend. During this time both directions of traffic will be detoured around the site using Steuben County Road 76 and Boyd Hill Road.

Horseheads Pick-A-Part and all Fenix Parts Inc. locations are coming together on Earth Day to help the environment. Both auto part companies will donate a dollar to plant a tree for each part that is sold on Monday. Both businesses promote economic and environmental recycling and reuse of used automotive parts. Pick-A-Part is earth-friendly year round as it regularly accepts used oil, batteries and tires to be recycled to prevent environmental pollution.
