Elmira Police Searching for Sex Offender:


Elmira Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a convicted sex offender.  According to authorities, Delmar Hooks is wanted for failing to register with the sex offender registry.  He was convicted in 2005 of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Pennsylvania.  He’s also wanted for criminal trespass and unlawful possession of marijuana.  If you do spot Hooks, police say do not approach him or try to intervene.  Call the Elmira Police Department at (607) 735-8600.




2 Arrested with 70 Baggies of Heroin in Hornell:


Two Steuben County residents have been arrested after they were allegedly found to be in possession of 70 baggies of heroin during a traffic stop in Hornell.  26-year-old Dylan Outman of Hornell and 27-year-old Theresa Latham of Hornellsville are both charged with criminal possession.  Outman is also charged with parole violation.  Both were sent to the Steuben County Jail.



Drugs, Weapons Allegedly Found in Jasper Home:


A Jasper man has been arrested after a search of a home on State Route 417 in Jasper allegedly turned up drugs and weapons.  According to State Police, authorities seized approximately 16 grams of crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and U.S. currency.  36-year-old Andrew Diffenbacher was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon.  He was sent to the Steuben County Jail.



NYS Tax Department Extends Call Center Hours for Tax Day:

Local Fire Departments Take Part in Boat Rescue Training:


Nine members of the Bath Volunteer Fire Department and three members of the North Corning Fire Department all spent Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday in training taking “Emergency Boat Operations and Rescue” from two instructors from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boating Commission.  The training is additional training for members of the Swift Water Rescue Team to advance their skills in boat operations during a flood and fast-moving water.  The instruction started with classroom instruction and then moved outdoors to nearby Keuka Lake.  It all lead to training in the river in moving water where each member had to display all they had learned over the weekend.  When the exams are checked and the certifications come back, each member will have a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) certification.



Free Document Shredding Events in Steuben Co.:


If you have sensitive documents that you’d like to safely dispose of, the Steuben County Public Works Department will host a free Shredding Day on Saturday, April 20th from 8 a.m. to noon.  It will take place at the Erwin Transfer Station on South Hamilton Street in Painted Post.  Other shredding days are set for: May 4th at the Bath Landfill, June 2nd at the Wayland Transfer Station, and July 27th at the Hornell Transfer Station, all also from 8 a.m. to noon.
