Two Former Steuben Co. Men Arrested for Murder in S.C.:
Two men, formerly of Steuben County have been arrested in connection with the deaths of two women in South Carolina. 39-year-old Jonathan Galligan, a former resident of Bath, and 41-year-old Christian Hurlburt, a former resident of Prattsburgh, have both been charged with murder and accessory after the fact. Galligan was previously arrested in 2003 and faced a sodomy charge. Hurlbert is a level-three registered sex offender. According to South Carolina authorities, the bodies of 27-year-old Christin Renee Bunner and 40-year-old Melissa Fairlee Rhymer were found Friday. Galligan is accused of killing Bunner, while Hulbert is charged with killing Rhymer. Hulbert reportedly attempted suicide on Wednesday, survived, then told deputies he witnessed Galligan kill Bunner and helped bury her. Galligan was arrested on Saturday. Both men have been jailed without bail.
Public Hearing on Wind Turbine Construction in Canisteo:
There will be public hearing on April 16th for residents of Cameron, Canisteo, Greenwood, Troupsburg, and West Union regarding a proposal by Chicago based company, Invenergy to build as many as 141 600-foot wind turbines. There will be two public sessions at the Canisteo Fire Department: the first at 2 p.m., then the second following at 6 p.m. If you have concerns about the impact of the project, this will be your opportunity to be heard. The state Department of Public Services will determine the future of the project and it has said statements made during the meetings will be considered in their decision.
Hunt’s Tomato Paste Recalled for Possible Mold:
Some of Hunt’s tomato paste is being recalled due to the possibility of mold. The recall includes six-ounce cans of Hunt’s Tomato Paste No Salt Added, which the company says could have been damaged after the canning process, creating the potential for mold. The cans have a best by date of October 16th 2020 and an item UPC of 00-0-27000-38807-5. No other Hunt’s products are affected. Consumers are advised to either throw away the product or return it to the store where it was originally purchased.
Travel Advisory Reminder – I-390 Bridge Work in Avoca:
A reminder for motorists that work begins today on the I-390 northbound bridge over County Route 7, north of Exit 1, in Avoca. The existing concrete deck will be replaced in stages, with traffic being reduced to a single lane. The project is expected to be completed in September. Minor travel delays are possible.
