DOT Reopens State Route 54A
The New York State Department of Transportation announced State Route 54A in Pulteney was reopened to traffic yesterday. Since September 10th, the road was closed for construction to complete work on a retaining wall and culvert system along the roadway.


Steuben County Winter Budget Worth $3 Million
Winter gave residents of Steuben County a taste of what is to come yesterday and with its budget, the county can cover costs of winter up to $3 million. The amount is invested to fund mostly salt and sand but will also be spent on personnel and machinery. Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler says during the winter, 683 miles of roads will be covered with 47 trucks and drivers countywide with crews that are out as early as 3:30 am to clear roads for the public.


Bath VA Hosts Veteran’s Day Festivities This Weekend
The Bath VA Medical Center kicks off its Veteran’s Day Celebration today beginning with the Mansfield University Brass Band performing a Veteran’s Day Concert in Building 92 at 1:30 p.m. The music has been chosen specifically to honor the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day and the community is invited to attend. The VA celebration continues tomorrow as the New York State Elks volunteer organization holds their annual Carnival for all residents at the Bath VA. Elk members including the state representatives tour the medical center and host the program from 1-4 p.m.


NYS Opens Fishing Without a License to All on Monday
In celebration of Veteran's Day on Monday, November 11, 2018, residents and non-residents can enjoy a day of freshwater fishing in New York without the requirement for a fishing license.


NYS Attorney General Calls for Whitaker Recusal
NYS Attorney General Barbara Underwood – part of a coalition of 18 Attorneys General – called for the recusal of Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, referencing his widely-circulated public comments criticizing Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The Attorneys General cite federal ethics regulations that require federal government employees to recuse themselves from participation in matters involving any “question in the mind of a reasonable person about his impartiality.”


Cuomo Issues Offshore Wind Solicitation for State
Governor Cuomo on Thursday issued a comprehensive solicitation seeking 800 megawatts or more of new offshore wind projects for New York. This first offering, issued by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, kicks-off competition for New York State's first large-scale offshore wind development contracts, an initial step toward its goal of 2,400 megawatts of offshore wind by 2030 to combat climate change.
