Corning Man Arrested on Drug Charges
With the help of Investigators, Troopers from the Bath and Wayland barracks arrested a Corning man on drug charges following a traffic stop in the village of Bath. State Police say Demarques B. Underwood was an occupant of a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation and was found to be in possession of a large quantity of “crack” cocaine packaged to be sold. Underwood was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and remanded to Steuben County Jail without bail and will reappear in Bath Village Court November 7th.


Four from Allegany County Arrested in “Operation Border Patrol” Sting
Hornell Police have arrested four people in the City of Hornell following a five month investigation they named “Operation Border Patrol” that focused on narcotics being transported from Allegany County into Hornell. All four of Allegany County suspects face multiple charges including criminal possession and criminal sale of a controlled substance and have been named as Jason and Amelia Workman both from Andover and Belmont residents Kyle Ordiway and Kristen Hand. Jason Workman, Ordiway and Hand all face charges of criminal sale of a controlled substance near school grounds while Amelia Workman faces 2 counts of child endangerment for allegedly selling drugs while the primary caregiver of two children in her custody.


Wayland Man Arrested After Groveland Crash
A Wayland man was arrested following a vehicle crash in Groveland. Deputies said 26-year-old Andrew Mehlenbacher drove off the highway and struck several parked cars. Mehlenbacher was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Deputies said his license had been suspended four (4) times. He was arraigned and released pending further court action.


NYSP Announce Halloween Drunk Driving Crackdown
New York State Police announce from now until November 1st they will crack down on drunk driving to keep the roads safe during the peak celebration time of Halloween. Troopers will be increasing patrols to crack down on impaired driving and underage drinking using masked and unmasked cars as well as undercover, concealed identity vehicles.


Drug Take Back Day Happening Today
Today is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  Law enforcement agencies across our Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions will have drop-off centers open to allow for safe and responsible disposal of unused prescription drugs. Collection will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Locally, Steuben County Sheriff’s office, Corning Police Department and the Tops stores in Bath and Dansville will be drop-off locations.

DOT Hiring Over 100 Workers in the Region
A help wanted sign has been posted at the state department of transportation. The DOT is looking to hire 470 positions for permanent and seasonal maintenance staff all across Upstate New York. The DOT is expects to hire 91 workers in the Southern Tier and 35 in the Finger Lakes region.
