Canisteo Park Renamed in Honor of Trooper Clark:


A unanimous vote by the Canisteo Village Board will see Patriot Park renamed in honor of late New York State Trooper, Nicholas Clark.  The Canisteo Community Support Group also has big renovation plans for the new Nicholas F. Clark Park, including a blue light honoring first responders, an entryway with Trooper Clark’s name on it, and three monuments in memory of veterans, first responders, and Trooper Clark.  The park was first established to honor first responders after the September 11th attacks.  Trooper Clark was killed in the line of duty in early July.  Clark played on the Canisteo football team and was the village’s only state champion wrestler.



Charges Filed Against Assemblyman Errigo:


The U.S. Attorney’s Office has filed bribery charges against Assemblyman Joseph Errigo.  At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, U.S. Attorney James Kennedy Jr. said the charges stem from programs receiving federal funds and honest services wire fraud.  At issue was legislation aimed at reducing the extent of local control over a pending development project in the Rochester area, and giving the state the ability to review the development project with the state Department of Transportation.  The bribe payer allegedly paid at least $10,500 to Errigo and the lobbyist to assign a bill number to the proposed bill and introduce legislation and begin the process of obtaining passage of a State Law.  Errigo allegedly accepted a total of $5,500.  Errigo appeared in court Wednesday and was released.  If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.  Errigo’s Assembly district covers Livingston County, southern Monroe County, and portions of northern Steuben County.    



Guthrie Corning Holding Flu Shot Clinics:


Guthrie Corning Centerway will hold the first of six flu shot clinics today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Patients six months and older are encouraged to receive a flu vaccination.  No appointment is necessary and attendees do not need to be established patients of Guthrie Corning.  Billing will be handled through insurance or by mail for those without insurance.  The clinic will be held on the first floor Family Practice Department in Corning.  The rest of the clinics are set for: tomorrow 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., then October 17th and 24th, and November 7th and 14th, all from 5:30 to 8 p.m.



S.R. 54 Paving Project Underway:


A paving project on State Route 54 got underway Wednesday from G. Fullagar Road to the Steuben County line in the Towns of Milo and Barrington.  The project is expected to last about a week.  Traffic will be maintained with one lane, two-way alternating flagging.  Motorists should expect delays.



Savona Leaf/Brush Pickup Starts Oct. 26th:


The Village of Savona will hold its annual leaf and brush pick up on Friday, October 26th and Friday, November 9th.  All leaves must be bagged and all brush must be 2 inches or less in diameter and no longer than 6 feet. Village officials say the leaves and brush should be placed curbside the night before.
