County Legislature Hosting Office Building Annex Open House
The Steuben County Legislature will host an open house at the County Office Building Annex next week on Thursday October 11th at 11am. The event includes a building dedication and light refreshments open to the public. The new three-story building on East Morris Street, across the street from the main County Building, will house the county Board of Elections offices, equipment and records on the first floor. Cornell Cooperative Extension will be on the second floor where they will have a demonstration kitchen and conference room. The third floor will remain vacant for further expansion.


Bath VA Maintains 5 Star Rating
According to the end of fiscal year 2018 hospital Star ratings, the Bath VA Medical Center has improved in its overall quality of services while maintaining its 5-star rating. The star rating system is designed to help the Veteran’s Administration identify practices of its best-performing hospitals and share them across the VA healthcare system to promote improvement system-wide.


State Senate Candidate Kirchgessner Responds to Abuse Allegations
New York State Senate Candidate for the 51st District, Amanda Kirchgessner, has responded to allegations by a former spouse that she was physically and emotionally abusive in their relationship. According to 36-year-old Brandi Morgan, her ex-wife, Kirchgessner pushed her, threw objects at her and physically threatened her. According to a report by WENY news, Kirchgessner did admit the relationship was indeed abusive but that she was not the perpetrator of abuse, adding: "I am also embarrassed to admit that I acted in ways that were wrong and self-destructive to me and hurtful to Brandi."


Avoca Village Board Public Hearing Next Week
The Avoca village board has scheduled a public hearing for next Thursday. According to a legal notice, the board wants to gather input from residents about furnishing fire and ambulance service in Avoca, Wheeler and a part of Howard. The hearing will be held in the village and town conference room on Chase Street. It will begin at 7:15 p.m. next Thursday.


NYSDOT Announces I-86 East Closing Between Exits 33 and 34
New York State Department of Transportation announced that Interstate 86 east between Exit 33, Almond, and Exit 34, Hornell will be closed this morning until 7 pm Tuesday, October 9th. The closure is to complete paving up to a bridge carrying I-86 East over County Route 65 and Norfolk Southern Railroad. Motorists traveling eastbound during the closure must leave the highway at Exit 33, Almond, then travel on 21 North to Hornell then onwards to State Route 36 to Exit 34 then can continue to I-86 East. If traveling this route, be prepared for lane shifts, travel delays and flaggers.


Mitrano Endorsed by DiNapoli
Democratic candidate for the 23rd Congressional District, Tracy Mitrano, has earned an endorsement from New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. In a statement, DiNapoli remarked: “As New York’s Comptroller, I know what it takes to defend the livelihoods of New Yorkers, and I know that Tracy will fight for every worker, senior, student, and family. She has the skill, the grit, and the vision to provide results for NY-23. I am proud to endorse Tracy and I look forward to seeing her in Congress.”
