Today’s County Legislative Meeting to Discuss County Rd 119 Bridge
The Steuben County Legislature will meet today for their regular 10 a.m. session to discuss agreement on payment for the consultant design of an overhaul of the County Road 119 bridge in the Town of Cameron, which will cost the county an estimated $230,000. Other items on the agenda include accepting a 2018 Homeland Security Program Grant to fund the Office of Emergency Services and County Sheriff’s Department, appropriating money from Steuben County’s contingency fund for a streambank stabilization program, authorizing Inter-municipal Agreement to explore detention facilities and services to comply with “Raise the Age” legislation and more.


State Police Need Leads in Animal Cruelty Incident Near Savona
State Troopers need help finding someone who threw a kitten out of an SUV and ran it over Saturday night on Route 125 near Savona. Witnesses say someone in a black SUV tossed the young cat out of a window then killed it by running it over with their vehicle.  The make, model and license plate number of the SUV is unknown. Anyone with information about this incident is told to contact State Police and share what they know.


BEGWS Schedules Power Outage
Some Bath Electric, Gas and Water Systems Customers will be experiencing a scheduled power outage today from mid morning until 12 noon. A power outage is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for customers on Burton Street, Maple Heights, Cross Street and Tonseth Drive in Bath. Bath Electric, Gas and Water Systems says they apologize for any inconveniences the outage causes,  appreciates their customers’ patience and understanding and encourages them to contact their office if they have any questions or concerns.


Reed’s Office Announces FEMA Workshop for Firefighters
The office of Congressman Tom Reed will host a workshop with FEMA this week to provide guidance to our local fire departments. The workshop scheduled this Thursday at Corning Painted Post High School Auditorium from 6 to 8 p.m and will host an AFG specialist from FEMA teaching how to make Assistance to Firefighters Grant applications as competitive as possible. Emergency Personnel interested in attending should RSVP to Tom Reed’s District Director Alison Hunt by calling (607) 654-7566.


County Legislature Finance Committee Holding October 9th Workshop
Steuben County Legislature Finance Committee announced a special budget workshop on October 9th following the committee’s regular 9:30 a.m. meeting in the legislative committee room. The process for developing the 2019 budget begins that day as well which will be presented in a public hearing slated for 11:30 a.m. on November 26th. Expenses expected for the coming year include those connected with the Raise the Age legislation and the increase in costs for public defense.


Trooper Foglia Retires
A State Trooper who was critically injured in May 2017 after his patrol car was struck on the side of Interstate 86 in the town of Campbell retired this weekend due to the permanent injuries he received from the accident. Trooper Craig Foglia was hospitalized for about two months after being struck from behind at full speed by an elderly man from New Jersey in a pickup truck while he had another vehicle pulled over for speeding. Foglia held his retirement ceremony accompanied by his family and Strong Memorial Hospital Staff.
