Unofficial Congressional Primary Results Too Close to Call:


The unofficial results are in for all 451 election districts in the fight for the 23rd Congressional District nomination.  Max Della Pia holds a narrow lead of less than 30 votes over Tracy Mitrano, 7,022 to 6,996.  Linda Andrei came in a distant third with 3,330 votes.  Then Ian Golden with 2,918, and Eddie Sundquist with 1,395.  The nomination is likely to be determined by absentee ballots.  In Steuben County, Della Pia carried the vote, 624 to Mitrano’s 587.



Miner Picks Running Mate in Run for Governor:


Candidate Stephanie Miner has announced her pick for running mate in her campaign for New York State Governor.  The former mayor of Syracuse has selected Village of Pelham Mayor Michael Volpe.  She said “Michael is a true public servant who has demonstrated real leadership by listening to his community and following-through with nonpartisan solutions.”  Miner is a democrat, but she’ll be running on the Independent party line.



Steuben Co. Legislature Names 2018 Hall of Fame Inductees:


The Steuben County Legislature has named its 2018 inductees for the county Hall of Fame, and this year’s class includes the first Steuben County manager and two civic leaders.  In July, former county Manager Mark Alger, Clara “The Orphan Train Lady” Comstock, and social activist Anna Cadogan Etz will be inducted in the Hall.  They were approved by the legislature Monday, and were recommended by the county Hall of Fame Committee from a field of eight nominees submitted by local historians and residents earlier this year.



Section Reynolds Ave. in Corning Closed for Gas Line Replacement:


A busy section of Reynolds Avenue in Corning has been temporary closed while replacement of a gas line is done.  The section is in front of Lamphear Court Apartments.



Firework Events in Steuben Co.:


With the 4th of July just around the corner here is where you can see firework displays in Steuben County.  Corning’s annual celebration, including concerts, will be July 4th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.  Fireworks will be over the Chemung River at 9:45.  Hornell will also hold its July 4th Celebration on the day at Veteran’s Memorial Park.  In Hammondsport, the annual Fireman’s Citizen’s Hose Company Festival will be July 5th through the 7th on the firehouse grounds.  It’ll include rides, food, games, and fireworks on Saturday night.
