Lockport Man Arrested for Racist Graffiti at Alfred State:


A Lockport man has been arrested and is facing felony charges after he allegedly posted racist graffiti at Alfred State College.  20-year-old Colin Kroening is accused of making the images, including a swastika and “KKK,” while visiting the campus.  According to the college, Kroening is not a student and he has now been banned from the school in the future, on top of his criminal charges which include felony aggravated harassment in the first and criminal mischief in the 4th as a hate crime.  He was sent to the Allegany County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail.



Cuomo Calling for Review Following Winter Storm Power Outages:


The New York State Department of Public Service has been directed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to conduct a full review into the power failures after Winter Storm Riley.  The storm knocked out power to more than 280,000 New Yorkers and days after thousands still remained without power.  Cuomo called the power failures “…dangerous and completely unacceptable…” and he said they will hold the utilities accountable by directing the Department of Public Service to conduct a full review into the outages and ongoing utility power infrastructure issues.



“Spring Forward” Your Clocks, Check Your Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Alarms This Weekend:


Daylight Saving Time officially gets underway at 2 a.m. Sunday morning so before you head to bed Saturday night you’re going to want to set your clocks ahead one hour.  But while making sure you’re on time is important; don’t forget it’s also a good time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.  If alarms have removable batteries, the batteries should be replaced.  Alarms with sealed-in batteries should be tested, and alarms more than 10 years old should be replaced.



WGI Hosting Ferrari Challenge North America:


Watkins Glen International announced Thursday that the Ferrari Challenge North America will be returning to the track in 2018.  This will be the first time since 2014 they’ve hit the track.  The race weekend is set for July 27th through the 29th.  Tickets and camping are available by visiting http://www.theglen.com



Corning Senior Center Celebrating 36th Anniversary:


The Corning Senior Center will celebrate its 36th Anniversary Wednesday with a birthday party.  There will be food, including cake and ice cream, and Tanglewood Nature Center will present their Birds of Prey.  If you’re interested in attending the lunch, you must register by noon today at 962-8000.
