Reed Makes Facebook Remarks on Cuomo's Tax Bill Stance
Congressman Tom Reed blasted and tagged Governor Cuomo in a Facebook post this week for criticizing the tax bill and accused the governor of lying about the new legislation, claiming the governor and his policies have hurt the state. Cuomo has made very vocal criticism of the tax plan for its elimination of deduction for lower income taxes and $10,000 cap on property taxes. The governor did not respond to this message but the two New York politicians have been feuding frequently lately for their disagreements with health care and tax reform.
Bath Woman Arrested on Drug Charges
A Bath woman was arrested for drug charges following a three month long investigation into the sale of prescription painkillers at her residence. According to the Village of Bath Police Department, Brandi Hawkins was arrested for two felony charges including one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Following her arraignment in Bath Village Court, Hawkins was remanded to Steuben County Jail until her court date next week.
Painted Post Woman Charged with Petit Larceny, Pot Possession
A Painted Post woman was arrested for Promoting Prison Contraband in the second degree and unlawful marijuana possession. Steuben County Sheriff’s office say that 18 year old Rebecca Ellison was remanded to the Steuben County Jail by Corning City Court for a petit larceny charge and was found to have a small amount of marijuana secreted on her person. Ellison was arraigned in the Village of Savona Court and remanded back to Steuben County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail.
Friendship Woman Arrested for DWI in Bath
Steuben County Sheriffs report the arrest of a Friendship woman with the assistance of the Village of Bath Police Department following a one car collision on I-86 in the Village of Bath. Taisia Lumsden was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, DWI with a child under the age of 15 as a passenger, use of a portable electronic device while operating a vehicle and moving lanes unsafely. Lumsden was arraigned in the Town of Urbana Town Court and released on her own recognizance. Steuben County Sheriffs say further charges may be pending for this case.
Savona Man Jailed for Violation Probation
A Savona man was arrested for violating the terms and conditions of his probation. With assistance from the Steuben County Probation Department, Steuben County Sheriffs took Duston Sheetz into custody in Corning for a warrant issued for him by the City Court for alleged probation violations. On probation due to a conviction of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree, Sheetz was arraigned in Corning City Court and remanded to Steuben County Jail without bail until his next court date.
Newfield Man Arrested for Steuben County Probation Violation
A Newfield man was arrested for violation of probation with Steuben County Court. Steuben County Sheriff Deputies took James P. Scott into custody following a warrant issued by Steuben County Court for allegedly violating terms of his probation and taken to Steuben County Jail pending arraignment. Scott was previously on probation for a charge of Grand Larceny in the fourth degree.
DEC Says 2017 Successful Hunting Year
New York State hunters have been more successful in 2017 than last year through the first several weeks of big game seasons…that from the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Early reports through Dec. 3 show that hunters reported taking 14 percent more deer in the Southern Zone compared to the same period in 2016. For bears, hunters have reported taking 814 bears so far in the Southern Zone.
Cuomo Announces Sexual Assault Funding Grants
Governor Cuomo has announced nearly $6.5 million in grants to 55 state-approved anti-sexual assault crisis and prevention programs operated by hospitals, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies statewide. The grants will help fund local crisis hotlines and direct services for sexual assault victims, such as crisis counseling, advocacy and trauma therapy, and support prevention and education in schools, on college campuses and in communities. In the region, $163,500 will go to Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes and $68,500 is earmarked for the Victim Resource Center of the Finger Lakes.
