Canisteo Man Arrested for Burglary:


A Canisteo man has been arrested for an alleged burglary in the Town of Canisteo in which three long guns were stolen.  24-year-old Nicholas Arce has been charged with burglary in the 2nd and he was sent to the Steuben County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.



Rep. Reed Focusing on Re-election, Not Governor Run:


A popular political blog recently mentioned Representative Tom Reed as a possible candidate to run against Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2018.  In response Reed was asked about it during his media call and he said that while he “appreciates the article” and that he never rules anything out, at this time he’s focused on re-election for the 23rd District and representing his constituents.    



Bath Assessor’s Office Special Hours:


Acting Town of Bath Assessor, Courtney Divens has announced that the Assessor’s Office will be closed today, December 6th, from 9:30 to 2 p.m.  It will also be closing at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 8th.



Penn Yan Fined $5K for August Sludge Spill:


The Department of Environmental Conservation has fined the Village of Penn Yan $5,000 for a sludge spill from the sewage treatment plant that entered the Keuka Lake Outlet in August.  In a report from The Chronical-Express, the village will also be required to follow compliance steps to prevent future spills.  If it fails to do so, the village could be required to pay a suspended penalty of $42,000.



Area Wegmans Stores Partnering with Instacart Delivery Service:


Having trouble finding the time to get to the store during this busy holiday season?  Well, the Wegmans in Corning and Elmira are looking to help as they’ve announced a partnership with delivery service, Instacart.  Starting today, customers can buy their groceries from home or while on the go using the Instacart app.  Once a customer has picked their items and a place for delivery, an Instacart shopper goes to Wegmans and does the shopping.  The shopper then delivers the items.  The items are priced slightly higher and there is an additional delivery fee, but the manager of the Elmira Wegmans says he believes that the ease of using the app will attract customers.



Arc of Steuben Holiday Bazaar Dec. 15th:


The Arc of Steuben will be holding its annual Holiday Shopping Bazaar on December 15th at their Industrial Park Office at One Arc Way in Bath.  The bazaar begins at 9 a.m.



AAA Reminds Drivers to Properly Secure Christmas Trees:


With roughly 500 people killed and 39,000 injured in the past four years in accidents where improperly secured Christmas trees flew off vehicles and causes crashes, AAA is reminding drivers to take care when bringing their trees home.  Not only can the trees be a hazard for drivers, but if they’re not correctly secured they can also cause damage to your vehicle, such as scratched paint, torn door seals, and distorted window frames.  Among the tips AAA offers drivers is to tie the tree down with quality ties like strong rope or nylon ratchet straps, to point the trunk towards the front of the vehicle, and to drive slowly and easily, using back roads were possible.
