United Resumes Flights, E-C Airport Adds Newark Hub:
There’s plenty of good news for travelers through the Elmira-Corning Airport. Not only has United Airlines has announced that it will be resuming flights in April, but it will be offering two daily flights at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. to the new Newark hub. United stopped serving the airport in 2016, citing a shortage of regional pilots. The new Newark hub is part of the airport’s $58 million renovation. Officials added that when employment goes up, they hope to have opportunities to look at other destinations, and possibly even another hub.
Canisteo River Bridge Project Meeting:
The Steuben County Department of Public Works will be holding a Public Information Meeting for the CR 22 Bridge Project over the Canisteo River in the Town of Cameron on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Addison Central School District’s Valley Elementary School located on CR 119, Cameron Mills. Representatives from Steuben County, the NYS Department of Transportation and the project consultant, Fisher Associates, will be present to provide a short presentation and accept any questions, comments and concerns regarding the project.
Alfred State Offers Reward in Arson Case:
Alfred State College is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect or suspects in the recent Mackenzie North fire incidents. Tipsters should call University Police. Since Nov. 8th, three arson fires have occurred at the dorm. There have been no reported injuries. The College says it is doing everything it can to keep students and the community safe.
Pistol Recertification Deadline Approaching:
New Yorkers with pistol licenses issued more than five years ago are being reminded that the deadline to recertify is fast approaching. If your permit was issued before January 15th, 2013, the deadline is January 31st. Failure to recertify results in license revocation and surrender of weapons. Recertification can be completed online on the New York State Police website at https://firearms.troopers.ny.gov/pprecert/welcome.faces, or by mail.
Arkport, Canaseraga Appoint Merger Committees:
As the Arkport and Canaseraga school districts continue to approach potential merger, the school boards have now appointed their eight-member advisory committees. The groups, one each for both the districts, are made up of both school staff and community members. As the merger process is a lengthy and complicated one, the earliest the districts could merge, if approved, is July 2019.
