Drug Charge for Bath Man:


A Bath man was arrested after Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot near the Wendy’s Restaurant in Corning Sunday evening.  32-year-old Steven Farrell was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and was issued an appearance ticket.



2 Charged with Violating County Social Law:


Two people are accused of allegedly violating Steuben County’s Social Host Law.  Sheriff’s deputies arrested 46-year-old Darcylynn McPherson and a seventeen year old on Sunday after deputies received a report of an underage drinking party in Corning.  Both were issued appearance tickets and were released.



More Roadwork for the Southern Tier:


A new wave of funding has been announced for road repairs in the Southern Tier.  $59.2 million from New York State’s “Southern Tier Soaring” economic development plan will be used to repave nearly 384 miles of roadway in Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung counties.



Corning Applies for Funding for Wastewater Plant:


Wednesday, the Corning City Council voted to apply for $1.6 million from the state in order make upgrades at the Corning Wastewater Treatment Plant.  City Manager Mark Ryckman said the improvements are in response to the Chesapeake Bay Cleanup Initiative and they’re estimated to cost $3.9 million.  In other business, the City also applied for just over $363,000 to make improvements to the Nasser Civic Center Ice Rink.



Bath PBA Endorses Watches:


The Bath Police Benevolent Association has come out in support of Steuben County Surrogate Court Judge candidate, Chauncey Watches.  The Bath P.B.A. – which represents the men and women of the Bath Police Department - released an endorsement letter Thursday saying “Judge Watches’ dedication to his community is exemplary and (he) has served with distinction as a fair and impartial dedicated civil servant.”  Surrogate Court has jurisdiction over estate proceedings and is responsible for granting and supervising the guardianships of infants and incapacitated adults.  The Surrogate Judge is also often assigned to County, Family, and Supreme Courts in Steuben and seven surrounding counties.  Watches has served as a municipal judge in Bath for the last 13 years. 



Arc of Steuben Golf Tourney Raises $29K:


The Arc of Steuben’s 22nd Arc Star Golf Classic raised more than $29,000 for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The annual tournament was held on Friday, June 2nd at the Bath Country Club and included more than 25 teams.  Funds from the tournament will help support the Arc of Steuben’s autism conference on July 19th at the Radisson Hotel Corning.  For more information visit arcofsteuben.org.
