Fatal in Elmira


A two car crash in Elmira’s Southside has killed one person this weekend.  According to Chemung County Sheriff’s Deputies the accident happened at the intersection of Broadway and Clemens Center Parkway around 7:00pm last evening.  The identity of the person killed has not been released and authorities are still investigating and have not released any details about the accident.


Escapee Caught


The man who escaped from the Wayne County Jail was captured yesterday. Authorities located 25-year-old Shawn Meacham and returned him to custody. He had been jailed for violating his probation following a burglary conviction. Meacham allegedly impersonated another inmate who was scheduled for release Sunday afternoon.


White Deer again


The opportunity to see white deer at the 7,000 acre Seneca Army Depot will happen once again.  Seneca Iron Works which bought the Depot has agreed to allow the public to visit the white deer refuge. Partnering with Seneca White Deer Incorporated public tours will start in October, a visitor center will be built and visitors will be able to see the deer during all four seasons.


Shootout in Elmira


A shootout on Sunday has an Elmira man in jail this 4th of July. 27 year old Wilfredo Maisonet was shot following a shooting incident in Elmira.  Maisonet reportedly was shot by police after he fired at officers who were approaching him following gunfire incident when he was refused entry into a home. Police searched for 4 hours before he was found.   Maisonet was treated at a local hospital for gunshot wounds. He was wanted on a parole violation.


Fireworks tonight


Fourth of July fireworks will be tonight a Corning’s War Memorial Stadium. The Corning Community Concert Band will perform starting at 8:00pm with fireworks scheduled to begin at 9:45am.  The display is expected to be bigger than ever and is sponsored by Corning Kiwanis, Rotary and Lions Clubs. Hornell fireworks begin at 10 tonight.


Music in the Park


Music in the Park gets underway tomorrow night Bath.  The Vancouver based band Town Pants will kick off the eight concert series presented by the Central Steuben Chamber of Commerce. Other acts include Sam Pallet, Southern Exit, Virgil Cain and Beatlemania on August 2nd.  Hammondsport’s Music in the Park series begins Thursday night with Abbey Payne. All concerts are free and begin at 6:00pm.
