Winter Storm Warning Tonight Through Wednesday:

 

The National Weather Service has announced a winter storm warning that takes effect at 8 p.m. tonight and will run through 8 p.m. Wednesday night.  The storm is expected to impact much of the state.  Locally, the snow will start tonight and pick up into tomorrow, where we could see as much as an inch per hour at times.  Certain areas could see as much as 10 to 12 inches by the time the storm has had its say.  Higher elevations could see 15 to 18 inches.

 

 

Additional Arrest in Drug Bust:

 

An additional arrest has been made following investigation into drug crimes in Steuben County.  45-year-old Frederick Snyder of Arkport has been charged with unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, and unlawful disposal of methamphetamine laboratory material.  He was sent to the Steuben County Jail without bail.  Five people were previously arrested when State Police executed a search warrant at a home in the hamlet of Burns, near Arkport, Thursday night.

 

 

Last Season for the Elmira Jackals:

 

While the news was generally good for the First Arena on Friday, it wasn’t for the Elmira Jackals.  It was announced Friday that the team will play until the end of the year, and then the team will fold.  The new owner of the facility is Brian Barrett.  Barrett has ties to Simmons Rockwell and he will be putting $3.5 million into the First Arena.  The Jackals have nine home games remaining; the last will be April 8th at 7 p.m.

 

 

Cuomo Calls for Investigation of RG&E:

 

In the wake of last week’s windstorm, Governor Andrew Cuomo is calling for the Public Service Commission to investigate Rochester Gas and Electric.  Speaking on Saturday, Cuomo accused the company of not being prepared and of dragging its heels in restoring power. 

 

 

NYS to Look at Impact of Plastic Bags:

 

Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a task force to address the impact of plastic bags on the environment.  In a statement, the Governor called the “costly and negative impact of plastic bags… a statewide issue that demands a statewide solution.”  Cuomo previously vetoed a fee proposed by the New York City Council on non-reusable shopping bags, calling it “deeply flawed.” 

 

 

Special Prattsburgh Board of Ed. Meeting Tonight:

 

The Prattsburgh Central School Board of Education will hold a special meeting tonight at 6 p.m. for the awarding of capital construction bids.  It will be held in the library media center.  A budget workshop will immediately follow.
