Hornell Drug Bust
We have a report of a drug bust in Hornell. Four people were arrested following a two month investigation. Arrested were 36-year-old Tracy Ames and 50-year-old Christopher Allman both from Hornell. Also arrested were 30-year-old Juawn Robertson and 26-year-old Jessica Battaglia….both from Rochester. All four were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and spent the night in jail. They will appear this morning in Hornell City Court.
Steuben County has a new undersheriff. Jim Allard the incoming sheriff-elect has tapped 51 year old John McNelis to be his undersheriff effective Jan 1st. McNelis who is from Hornell is a retired NYS trooper and a school resource officer at the Canisteo-Greenwood School. He began is law enforcement career as a corrections office for Steuben County back in 1988.
Village of Bath receives $320,000 grant
The Village of Bath has received a Christmas present with the news of a $320,000 Main Street Grant from the Regional Economic Development Council. The money will be used for renovation and improvements to the Liberty Street corridor businesses. It’s a 75-25 grant program with 75% grant money and 25% from the business.
Miracle on the Miracle Mile
There was a four car chain reaction accident on the Miracle Mile in Horseheads last night…miraculously nobody was hurt. According to police the mishap happened at the intersection of Corning Blvd and Chemung Street just after 8:00pm. Traffic was reduced to one lane until the vehicles were cleared. No reports of anybody being charged.
Cohocton Man Arrested
A Cohocton man will spend the holidays locked up. Earlier this week, deputies from the Office Building and Court Security Division report the arrest of 54-year-old David Evans of County Road 6. He was taken into custody of a probation violation warrant. Arraigned in Fremont court, Evans was remanded to the county jail without bail. He’s due back in court January 9th. Evans was on probation for a previous crime
Canisteo Teen Accused of Selling Drugs
A 15-year-old from Canisteo has been arrested for allegedly selling prescription drugs. The teen is charged with 5th degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. The 15-year-old will answer the charge in family court.
Funding to Fight Homelessness in New York
U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced Thursday that $60 million in funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development will go to organizations statewide to help find housing for the homeless and to promote programs that encourage self-efficiency. That includes $2.8 million for the Southern Tier. In Steuben County, some $569,000 will go to three organizations.
Chick-fil-A Looking to Expand in Upstate
The Buffalo News is reporting that popular fast-food chain Chick-fil-A is looking to expand in upstate New York and is apparently considering Syracuse among several markets. The Town of Greece in suburban Rochester says a public hearing has been scheduled for January 17th to consider a request. Chick-fil-A has 2,000 locations in 46 states – but only few in New York, in the New York City area.
People leaving New York State
According to recent census figures, NYS continues to hemorrhage more residents than any other state. The continued loss of people could weaken the state’s congressional power.
Former Buffalo Bills Player murdured
A former Buffalo Bills player was found shot and killed in a Detroit, Michigan home.
Police say Robert Eddins 28, and another man were found Tuesday and died of multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the suspect, whom the police are still searching for, could be someone the two men knew.
