Work for I-86 Between Hornell and Howard Starts Tuesday
The New York State Department of Transportation has announced that pavement maintenance work on Interstate 86 in both the eastbound and westbound directions, between Hornell and Howard, will begin Tuesday. The work will include a sealing treatment at the edges and centerline of the roadway. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times. Motorists should expect delays. Work is anticipated to last one week, weather permitting.
NY Court Rules Farmers Have Organizing Rights
From Albany’s WTEN…The New York Supreme Court Appellate Division ruled that farmworkers across the state have the right to organize and bargain collectively. The decision was affirmed by a 4-1 majority vote. The New York State Farm Bureau says it is disappointed with the decision.
NYS Announces Temporary Lane Closures for Memorial Day Holiday
State officials have announced that temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28 to accommodate increased travel throughout Memorial Day weekend. Drivers should keep in mind that in some cases, road work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. The Governor is also urging motorists to abide by New York's Move Over Law and to utilize the 64 text stops located statewide as needed for texting, making phone calls, and other non-driving tasks.
Congressman Reed Announces Hornell Town Hall for 5/29
Congressman Tom Reed has announced a Town Hall Meeting scheduled for this coming week at the Hornell VFW Post 2250 on 245 Canisteo Street in Hornell. The meeting will begin at 5:30pm.
OFA Announces Series for Caretakers
Steuben County Office for the Aging has announced “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” a free six-week educational program in Bath focusing on the needs of family and friends who care for older adults suffering with long-term conditions. The series will aim to teach caregivers how to reduce personal stress, change negative self-talk, communicate their needs to family members and health care providers, and more. It will begin June 18th to July 23rd at the Steuben County Annex Building in Bath. Deadline to register is June 10th. Bath VA to Close Entrance Bridge Starting Tuesday
Beginning Tuesday the entrance bridge of the Bath VA Medical Center will be closed for the summer. According to officials, the bridge’s concrete deck, steel beams and sidewalks are being replaced and removed. The closure will last four months and all traffic will have to enter through the VA’s back entrance by using Longwell Lane, off Knight Settlement Road.
