After much build up, the 2018 midterm elections are finally here. Polls in New York are open now until 9 p.m. tonight. Attorney General Barbara Underwood has announced her office’s Election Day Hotline, which is available to help troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered by voters at the polls. Voters can call anytime during polling hours at (800) 771-7755. Today’s election will determine state Governor, Comptroller, Attorney General, and will see a slew of congressional races decided, as well as many local town and village races.
Twin Tiers Most Wanted Suspect Arrested for Failing to Pay Child Support:
A tip to Steuben County 911 has led to the arrest of one of the Twin Tiers Most Wanted. 33-year-old John Davis of Hornell allegedly owed unpaid child support in the amount of $39,000. He was arrested in Hornellsville on a Steuben County Family Court Warrant for failure to pay child support. He was arraigned and sent to the Steuben County Jail.
Probation Warrant Arrest:
A Cameron woman was arrested for alleged violation of probation. According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, officers of the Village of Bath Police Department discovered 28-year-old Tenika Wheeler as a passenger in a vehicle and determined she had an active warrant out of the Village of Bath for violation of probation. She was arraigned and sent to the Steuben County Jail without bail.
NYSP Issue more than 16,500 tickets during Halloween Enforcement:
The New York State Police announced Monday that it issued a total of 16,690 tickets statewide during the Halloween enforcement campaign. The special enforcement ran October 26th through November 1st. Troopers arrested 266 people for DWI and investigated 1,778 accidents, which resulted in 251 people being injured and three fatalities. As part of the enforcement, troopers also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the state. Over 5,000 tickets were issued for speeding, over 400 each for distracted driving and seatbelt violations, and nearly 200 tickets were issued for violations of the move over law.
Bath Compost Site Closing This Weekend:
A reminder to residents, the Village and Town of Bath compost site will be closing this weekend on November 10th. Accepted materials are brush, leaves, grass clippings, and garden materials. No containers, plastic bags, buckets, boxes, ect. may be left at the site. Construction and/or demolition materials will not be accepted.
Forums in Geneva/Watkins Glen on Algal Blooms:
The Seneca Pure Waters Association will host a pair of forums on algal blooms this month. The first will be this Thursday at the Ramada Geneva Lakefront, while the other will be Monday the 12th at the Watkins Performing Arts Center.
