Canisteo Man Arrested for Child Abuse:
A Canisteo man has been arrested following a report of possible child abuse. State Police arrested 36-year-old Michael McMindes and have charged him with sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. It’s alleged that McMindes intentionally subjected a child less than 11 years old to sexual contact while at a residence in the Village of Canisteo. McMindes was arraigned and sent to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of bail.
Horseheads Marine Murdered in San Diego:
A marine native to Horseheads that was killed outside San Diego, California, last week was murdered authorities have confirmed. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, 21-year-old Christopher Truax Jr. died from a gunshot wound and they are now investigating his death as a murder. The possible motive and whether or not there are any suspects is unknown at this time.
Two Arrested in Corning Burglary:
Two men are facing multiple charges after they allegedly committed a burglary in Corning and fled from police. According to Corning Police, they received a report of a burglary in progress on Sunset Drive on September 11th just before 11 p.m. Witnesses described a vehicle fleeing the area and when police located it, and attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused. The pursuit ended in a parking lot on State Street and the driver, 27-year-old Kevin Walker, allegedly fled on foot. He was later found and arrested. The passenger of the vehicle, 28-year-old Adams Phillip, was arrested as he was trying to exit the vehicle. Items linking both men to the burglary were found inside the vehicle, according to police. Walker has been charged with burglary, criminal possession of marijuana, unlawful fleeing a police officer, reckless driving and other vehicle and traffic violations. Phillip was charged with burglary and criminal possession of marijuana.
Sen. O’Mara, Hornell Mayor to Host Town Hall:
Senator Tom O’Mara and Hornell Mayor John Buckley will host a community town hall next week at the Hornell VFW. Topics will include updates on the opioid epidemic, the push to legalize marijuana, municipal and school funding, ethics reform, the SAFE Act, and more. The meeting will be open to the public and questions from the audience are encouraged. Start time is 6 p.m. on September 18th.
