Troupsburg Man Killed in UTV Accident:
A Troupsburg man was killed over the weekend in an accident involving a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV). State Police were called the scene on Keegan Road in the Town of Troupsburg and life-saving measures were performed, but 50-year-old Ivan Learn died at the scene. Witnesses told Troopers the UTV was traveling northbound when it exited the roadway and overturned. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
Corning Charged for Hitting, Dragging Utility Pole:
A Corning man was arrested Saturday on charges of leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving while intoxicated following an accident on Park Avenue where he allegedly struck and dragged a utility pole with his vehicle. The incident occurred Saturday morning. Police responded to the scene and observed that the utility pole and a city street sign had both been struck, and the vehicle dragged half of the pole a few hundred feet. 26-year-old Ryan Brooks allegedly abandoned the vehicle three blocks from the accident and he was later located at his home. A section of Park Avenue was closed for a short time while the section of utility pole was removed.
Dansville Man Arrested for Violation of Probation, Resisting Arrest:
Steuben County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Dansville man on July 31st for allegedly violating probation and resisting arrest. It’s alleged that 30-year-old Jonathan Sick was wanted on an active warrant for violating probation and he fled on foot into a wooded area near his residence when contacted by deputies and members of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. He was apprehended a short time later and was sent to the Steuben County Jail without bail.
Campbell Man Accused of Violating Order of Protection:
A Campbell man has been arrested for allegedly violating an order of protection while incarcerated at the Steuben County Jail. According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Douglas Shelanskey made several recorded telephone calls to a protected party of an order of protection. He was charged with criminal contempt in the first and sent back to the jail without bail.
Warrant Sweep Nets 3 Steuben Co. Residents:
In a recent warrant sweep conducted by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, three county residents were arrested: 32-year-old Alicia Lynn Griffey of Addison on an active felony probation warrant; 42-year-old Jonathan Aloi of Campbell on an active misdemeanor violation of probation warrant; and 33-year-old Scott Root of Tuscarora on an active bench warrant for failing to appear to a court date. Griffey and Aloi were both sent to the Steuben County Jail without bail, while Root was held on $250 cash bail.
Registration Deadline for Primary Election Aug. 19th:
To vote in the upcoming state and local primary election, the registration deadline is fast approaching. Your registration can be dropped off at your county board of elections, or it can be mailed, but note it must be postmarked no later than August 19th and must be received by a board of elections no later than August 24th.
Hearings to be Held on Governor’s Parolee Vote Order:
The New York State Senate GOP announced Monday that public hearings will be scheduled for input on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s executive order allowing parolees to vote. The order was signed in April and the Governor’s press office says it puts New York in line with Washington D.C. and 18 other states. Dates for the proposed hearings haven’t been announced at this time. Whatever is found during the hearings, a Constitutional Amendment, which would take several years, would be needed to overturn an executive order.
